Living Life to the Fullest Nurse Coaching by Lorilynn Shaw

Tell us about yourself! What makes you, “you”?

Hello! I was born and raised in the Toledo, I love calling Toledo home! As a nurse I have had many roles, but finally settled into psychiatric nursing. It is my passion. I am semi-retired but value the time working at an in-patient hospital setting. I also love nurse coaching and sharing the journey with others. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. Being called ,”Nana,” warms my heart. I restarted my life over at 50 and by the grace of God have a rich full life….

Describe your business/services and then tell us about what brought you to creating this business and why you’re passionate about it.

I am starting this nurse coaching business as my part-time ministry. I don’t preach but offer an ear to walk alongside you. Nurse coaching is about the future, mind, body, spirit, and focusing on personal strengths to make change happen. With my background in psychiatric nursing and the life experience of starting over at 50, I have seen and know what it is like to forget to dream for awhile. I would love to be a part of others positive life change.

What goals do you have for your business in the future?

I have modest goals of five clients a week improving lives one person at a time. I would like to serve two women from my church and three women from the community a week for several sessions. I especially like encouraging women to dream about what they want the last quarter of their life to look like… the best is yet to come!

What is your proudest achievement?

I won many awards when I was in medical sales, but my proudest achievements are the kind deep felt thank you comments from my psychiatric patients who have nothing to give you but a smile and new hope for a better future.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner and how did you overcome it?

This is a pure act of love and something to enjoy for semi-retirement. The biggest challenge is to keep the commitment to stay with 5 or so clients a week.

What advice would you give to a woman looking to start a business or get into a leadership role? Is there one thing that has helped you specifically?
