Tell us about yourself! What makes you, “you”?

I’m a wife, mom to two teenagers, and a passionate animal lover! I enjoy traveling, having fun, getting creative, and making people laugh. After spending many years in education, I decided it was time to make a change. Instead of starting my 20th year in the classroom, I chose to “shake things up” – literally!

Describe your business/services and then tell us about what brought you to creating this business and why you’re passionate about it.

Shake It Up Lemonade is a mobile lemonade business that offers fresh-squeezed, hand-shaken lemonade in a variety of flavors. We specialize in crafting unique and fun recipes for different events and seasons.

This business was born during a challenging chapter of my life, when I found myself at a crossroads with my career. I needed something to help me refocus and find joy. Shake It Up Lemonade became my outlet—a way to channel my energy into something creative, positive, and uplifting. Little did I know, it would not only transform my outlook but also change my life in ways I never expected!

What goals do you have for your business in the future?

My goal is to connect with new people, share my delicious drinks, and explore all the amazing things Toledo and the surrounding communities have to offer.

What is your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement so far has been becoming fully licensed and permitted in Michigan as a mobile food vendor. It was a moment that made me realize I was truly a business owner—a dream I’ve always had. Next up Ohio!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced as a business owner has been pushing through those moments when it feels like I’m not getting anywhere. Another challenge was the last step in sharing my dream and business with the public after stepping away from my long-time professional career. In fact, my two teenagers told me starting a lemonade stand was the “worst and most embarrassing idea ever!” It felt safer keeping it to myself, family and close friends.

But I worked through that fear and uncertainty by focusing on what was best for myself and my family. I owe much thanks to a great therapist, and the support of my family and myself to push through. I’m proud to say I didn’t give up. The journey taught me the power of vulnerability and the importance of pushing through even when things seem tough. And while my brutally honest teens weren’t on board from the start, I’m so proud I showed them what it means to chase a dream and never quit. In fact, they love slinging lemonade right alongside me now!

What advice would you give to a woman looking to start a business or get into a leadership role? Is there one thing that has helped you specifically?

My advice to any woman looking to start a business or step into a leadership role is to stay authentic, follow your passion, and find something you truly love doing!

What made you want to join HerHub?

I joined to be part of a community of like-minded women to learn from and connect with because owning your own business can often feel isolating.

Why do you feel it’s important to collaborate and empower other women?

I believe it’s important to collaborate and empower other women because we can learn from each other both in business and life.
Why If you could recommend one resource (book, podcast, quote, website, etc.) that has helped you in life or in business, what would it be and why?
Mel Robins and her “Let them” theory. It was what I told myself over and over that helped me navigate a major transition last year.

We love spreading love to other woman-owned businesses and we bet you do too.  Give a shout out here to your favorite, local, woman-owned business (besides your own)!
