Tell us about yourself! What makes you, “you”?

Great question! I love animals and enjoyed volunteering on the Toledo Animal Rescue Board for many years. I am a board member at Advocating Opportunity, a nonprofit that offers legal assistance to victims of human trafficking, as well as the Toledo Arts Commission. I have a passion for the arts, the outdoors, and I love to teach spinning classes at the YMCA.

Describe your business/services and then tell us about what brought you to creating this business and why you’re passionate about it.

I help individuals and families achieve their financial goals through thoughtful financial planning. I care about what is important to my clients and we work together on both short term and long-term goals. I enjoy watching a child graduate from college using the savings I helped develop with a client or seeing a couple live out their retirement dreams together in Hawaii. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing people’s financial dreams come true.

What goals do you have for your business in the future?

My firm purchased a building on the corner of Superior and Washington and it has been a rewarding process of watching our vision become a reality. We hope to grow the company by adding more advisors and staff and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.

What is your proudest achievement?

Earning my Certified Financial Planner (R) designation and becoming a business owner that owns her office building.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a business owner and how did you overcome it?

Being a woman in a historically male dominated field has had its challenges. When you don’t have many women leading financial firms, it can be hard to imagine yourself becoming a successful leader of one. I feel sometimes like I have had to work twice as hard as my male counterparts to obtain the same level of trust and respect from clients.

What advice would you give to a woman looking to start a business or get into a leadership role? Is there one thing that has helped you specifically?

My advice would be to take a chance and step outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes we can let our fear of failure get in the way of accomplishing our goals. Don’t let fear stand in your way and you’ll be amazed by what you are able to accomplish. Whenever I feel that feeling of fear creeping in, I use that adrenaline to drive me forward.

What made you want to join HerHub?

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the collaboration and mentorship of many talented women. The mission of HerHub really inspired me to want to get involved and help develop leadership skills for those who may be just starting out in their career or who are looking for connections in Toledo.

Why do you feel it’s important to collaborate and empower other women?

We are always stronger when we lift each other up and support one another as opposed to competing with each other. Toledo has so many talented women leaders and I want to see them all succeed and work together to help our community continue to thrive.
Why If you could recommend one resource (book, podcast, quote, website, etc.) that has helped you in life or in business, what would it be and why?
“Atomic Habits” by James Clear and “Walking on the Glass Floor” by Judy Hoberman

We love spreading love to other woman-owned businesses and we bet you do too.  Give a shout out here to your favorite, local, woman-owned business (besides your own)!

There are so many! But two of my favorites are the Original Sub Shop owned by Maureen Brogan and Alice-Louise Press owned by Amy Lesneiwicz.
